Learn to Draw & Paint - How & Where to Study to Be an Artist

The answers can be complex and confusing. Search the web for the phrase "art school" for millions of choices. If you go to the web and Google (search) "learn to draw" you get to choose from 4,880,000 web sites (at least that's what I found while writing this article). By the time you try it, there will likely be more.

If you do a web search using Google for the term "learn to paint" Google showed 854,000 web sites in the light blue bar at the top of the page under the "Google" logo.

Brooklyn

There are degree granting and non-degree granting art schools, art schools with classrooms and online art courses. Some non-degree art courses give "Certificates of Completion."

Learn to Draw & Paint - How & Where to Study to Be an Artist

Finding an art school course to learn to draw and paint that suits your personal needs, budget and available time is a challenge.

Here is a list of some of the options:

Option 1: A way to learn drawing and painting is to go to an art school, college or university like Pratt Institute (campuses in Brooklyn and Manhattan in New York City, USA where I graduated and later taught). Two issues for many people are the time and money needed. The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree I took at Pratt now costs over 0,000.00 USD for the four year degree program. Of course, this web article is viewed by a worldwide audience. To see the great art schools around the world, there is a very good listing of them on the Saatchi Gallery web site page titled: "Art Colleges around the World: Universities, Visual Arts, Fashion and Design Institutions." The Saatchi Gallery Art Colleges page web site address is listed on the links page in the resource box at the bottom of this article.

The Saatchi Gallery list includes the college I graduated from (Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York City, USA) and art schools in many countries all across the world. The Saatchi Gallery art school listings had 57 pages with thousands of art schools listed when this article was written.

Option 2: Take a local art course either at a private art school, a local high school, secondary school or college. Of course, some localities don't offer that option and the skills of the teachers are important, so you need to get recommendations and check these teachers out before you enroll. You can Google these choices, ask neighbors, friends and teachers in schools near you. You might also get recommendations from art clubs if you have them in your locality. Some artists give private art classes to individuals or groups. I used to give private group lessons in the basement of my home.

Option 3: Just pick up a pencil or oil paints and start drawing and painting. This works for some people like Grandma Moses (Anna Mary Robertson) who taught herself how to paint starting at age 81. See the article about her on Wikipedia (address of Grandma Moses article on Wikipedia is listed on the links page in the box at the bottom of this article). Grandma Moses had no art training and her paintings, originally priced at .00 to .00 USD, now sell in the ,000.00 to ,000.00 USD range and her annual income was said to be 0,000.00 USD in the late 1950s. Grandma Moses died in 1961 at the age of 101.

Option 4: Buy some art books and/or video tapes on how to draw and how to paint at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble online or at your local book store and learn to be an artist. I once had a teacher who said take a few weeks in art school learning the basics (which end of the brush to use, etc.) and paint 200 pictures and you'll be an artist. This works for some people.

Option 5: Online distance learning art courses are for students unable to attend on-campus classes. Online art courses provide flexibility as to when students study and practice and when they complete lessons. Some offer degrees and some hobby courses issue certificates of completion. Some consist of totally online step-by-step how-to lessons the student follows to teach themselves. Others send the students art textbooks, art supplies and lesson plans. The student reads the art textbooks and follows the recommended drawing and painting practice sessions. Next, the distance student completes and mails their assigned drawing or painting to their school. An instructor at the school draws or paints a critique with comments of each of the student's assigned picture and mails the student's work and critique to the student.

Option 6: There is a new kind of art school using the web to interactively teach drawing and painting.

A digital camera is included in each student's sign up kit along with art textbooks and art supplies. Students who have their own digital camera deduct the cost of the digital camera, usually supplied with the course, from the tuition cost. The kit is mailed to the newly enrolled student. The student works at home, reading the art textbooks, practicing, and then doing the assigned lesson artwork from the assignments they get in their personal web folder on the school web site.

The student takes digital photos of their completed lesson artwork for each lesson and then sends those photos as email attachments to the school.

The art teacher at the online art school draws or paints a critique of the emailed student's lesson artwork with comments on how the student might have better understood the lessons taught in the art textbooks and supplemental on line mini-lessons. That painted or drawn critique of each student's submitted artwork is posted to the school website, a personalized how-to-do-It-better critique for the student to see 24/7/365. The student's submitted drawings or paintings and the teacher's critiques are shown on in the student's personal web folder at the school's web site.

Subjects covered are drawing, form, composition, color theory, perspective, still life, landscape drawing and painting as well as drawing and painting the figure.

This school offers a "Certificate of Completion" and a CD with all of the student's submitted work, all of the critiques by the teacher and suggestions for continued growth as an artist on completion of the full art course.

Different Types of Card Games

There are limitless types of card games to be played. People think because two games use the same deck of 52-cards that they are similar games, but nothing could be more different than Barbu and Speed, or Pai Gow and Pinochle.

Here's a list of twenty different kinds of card games, and some facts about them.

Halls In Queens

1.Bridge

Different Types of Card Games

Bridge is a popular contract bidding game. Bridge has a culture -- there are websites, newspaper columns, and even radio shows devoted to bridge strategy. There is a world-wide obsession with bridge, even though it has been called the hardest card game in the world. With a complicated strategy and steep learning curve, to many bridge is not just a game, it is a lifestyle. I wish I were exaggerating.

2. Whist

Whist could be called "Bridge, Jr" -- and though it is not as big a game as it once was, and is dwarfed in popularity by big-brother Bridge, Whist has never really died out. Card gamers love trick-taking games -- beating out your opponent in such a visual way is one of the more exciting part of any card game. Whist has some of the complexity of Bridge without any bidding.

3. Texas Hold'em

Texas Hold'em is something of a legend -- a poker variation with a story as rich as a Spaghetti western. This version of poker, a drawing and betting game, was invented and then made popular by old time poker sharks in Texas, hence the name. This is easily the most popular poker variant right now, and is bringing more new people to card gaming than any other game.

4. Hearts

It is said that most of the professional poker tour players are hardcore Hearts players and that they bet big money on cutthroat games of Hearts in dark mysterious rooms during tournaments. Romantic as that may sound, it would make sense for these card sharks to love the game of Hearts - an otherwise childlike game of matching cards (and no bidding) usually turns into a competitive nightmare. Because of the game play, there are lots of ways to screw your opponents in Hearts. Trick-winning and passing card are big elements of Hearts.

5. Spades

People don't realize it, but spades is a variation of bridge that simplifies the game even more than Whist and changes the outcome of the game as well. Spades is really popular in large groups, on college campuses, and in tournaments around the world. There may be as many variations of Spades as there are groups playing it -- thanks to "jailhouse rules" which penalize tactics like point sandbagging and the existence of multiple versions of "house rules". A strategic game you can play without paying much attention if you want.

6. Go-fish

This is the simple children's card matching game we all remember from our childhood. You can play Go-fish with as many players as you have cards. Some people claim Go-Fish is a variation of Rummy but the simplicity of the game and the children's game gimmick make it likely just some toy company's creation. Strangely enough, Go-fish is known as Literature in some parts of the world. Write in if you understand that one.

7. War

Another children's game (or time-killing game) War is a straight luck based game. Depending on the flop of the card, you either win or lose a war. Most people under the age of 30 learned War before they learned any other card game. You'll see War played a lot in lines at airports.

8. Oh Hell!

Substitute your own dirty word for "Hell!" and you know this party game. Most of the fun is the fact that you get to cuss a lot and people laugh at you. What keeps this game popular is that it is a strict betting game. The object of Oh Hell! is to bid the precise number of tricks you will win. You have to take only the number that you bid, no more and no less. Play is precise, and because of the structure of the game, one player always blows it big time. There. That's what's fun. Screwing your opponent.

9. Blackjack

A skill game that in some casinos is the best bet you can make, if you can play a perfect hand. This is one of the most popular casino card game, and has a place in popular culture as THE "Vegas" game. The point is to build a hand that adds up to a total of 21 points without going over, and ending up with a higher number than the dealer. Players compete against the House directly, adding to the fun. Little known fact -- there exists somewhere in this world a blackjack player's hall of fame. Safe to say that this game's got a cult following

10. Baccarat

James Bond's favorite game (don't believe the hype -- it wasn't poker or blackjack -- read the books) Baccarat is a basic betting game. Players bet on who will win a given hand - the player, the banker, or if there will be a tie. Sure it looks easy, but Baccarat is a skill game. A small sidenote about Baccarat -- the name comes from the name of the worst possible hand. This would be like calling your video poker machine "High Card Poker". Just doesn't have the same ring as "Royal Flush".

11. Solitaire

The most varied card game in the world. In England, they call this game Patience, and for good reason. Solitaire requires little set up beyond putting cards in specific places, and is usually played by yourself. Solitaire is another popular airport line waiting game.

12. Rummy and variations

There are lots of different kinds of Rummy, more than are probably written down on any list. I've written for a website that had me list 500 variations or other names for Rummy, so I'll spare you the reading and just say there's lots of kinds of Rummy. The more popular versions are called Gin Rummy, Liverpool Rummy, and Contract Rummy. The feature that makes a game a Rummy is a player matching identical cards into pairs and other groups. Some experts believe the Chinese game of Mahjong is part of the Rummy family, though I'd bet the Chinese are just fine with Mahjong as it is.

13. Pai Gow

This is an old Chinese domino game that has been passed down through the years as a poker variation. You'll see Pai Gow at casinos in both as a poker and a domino game -- it is probably the casino game that the least number of people understand. This is a game of fast bets, player versus dealer. Pai Gow strategy is just as rich as any other poker betting game, and the culture of Pai Gow is similar to the Blackjack culture -- super-fast bets and edgy behavior at the margins.

14. Spoons

A silly card game probably invented to keep kids out of trouble, Spoons is a bluffing game (with some elements of matching) that uses simple kitchen utensils as an added play element. The first player in the group to draw a poker style four of a kind reaches to a pile of spoons in the middle of the table, signalling the other players to grab for one. Since there's one less spoon than players, one player will be left out every time. So its a social interaction game, and not a game chock full of card strategy. its still fun. Great date night game.

15. Speed

Speed (sometimes called Spit) is a matching game that is unique because both players play simultaneously and as fast as they can. In Speed, a player tries to 'get rid' of his or her cards by matching them to cards placed face-up on the table. This is a face to face game, though there's actually little interaction between the two opponents. The last few moments of any game of Speed reminds me of solitaire on fast-forward, with hands and cards flying around and rows forming and draining like water pipes. Strange game, Speed.

16. Crazy 8s

This is another children's matching game, you could say it is cousin to the popular game Uno. The 8s in the deck of standard cards are considered "crazy" not because they need to be medicated but to indicate they are wild cards. In some variations of Crazy 8s, not just Wild Cards but other "rule cards" exist, making the game more complex for older players.

17. Slapjack

If you want to teach more complex card games to younger kids, Slapjack is the perfect vehicle. The object of Slapjack is to acquire the whole deck of cards by matching and slapping pairs. Kids like to slap stuff, and the game can be played over and over again.

18. Old Maid

You don't need an "Old Maid" deck to play this kid's card game -- any standard 52 card deck will do. Just remove one of the Queens. Old Maid is a matching game where players find pairs You trade cards with your opponent until that player is left with the unmatched Queen. Matching games are popular, and the novelty "Old Maid" packs are fun for kids.

19. Cribbage

This is a hybrid board and card game with complicated rules that generally intimidates people, even hardcore card gamers. You play cribbage by forming groups of cards that are worth different point values, and moving a peg on a board that represents your progress accordingly. Requiring a specific board (or a quick hand with a pen and paper) cribbage isn't the best travel game, but as fans of cribbage will tell you, no two games are alike. There are solitaire versions of cribbage, and other varieties of cribbage game play to choose from if you're bored with the standard version.

20. Pinochle

Pinochle is popular because it is a trick-taking game that you play with a 48 card deck. In Pinochle, you try to make melds or tricks, much like in Gin, but there's a really complex scoring system making the game fun to learn and to master. To be good at pinochle, you have to play for a number of years, and lose plenty of hands. Though it is less popular year after year, Pinochle is one of those "heritage games".

Ethics in Management - Ethical Management

Facilitative and positive leadership is linked to ethics in management, and it begins with a solid understanding of the self. Some argue that the key elements to positive leadership are self-awareness, self-discipline, and self-efficacy, which then leads to the servant leader, who serves the corporation and the workers by focusing on corporate objectives and goals rather than personal goals. Self-awareness, has little to do with contemplating one's navel high in the mountains of India. It is based on a genuine understanding of one's emotions and selfish tendencies, leading to emotional control and emotional intelligence, the ability to see beyond personal aggrandizement and to display a managerial effectiveness that "does not vary" from situation to situation.

Technology has created a new, and younger, leadership corps that is well versed in technological innovation, but not so knowledgeable in management and leadership skills. Psychological knowledge can bridge that gap by providing an understanding of human factors that are usually learned, if at all, through years of on the job experience. These factors include, for example, body language, presentation of self, and motivational theory. Many theorists argue that American corporate culture was creating a Marxian like alienation in its white collar workers, who began to feel isolated and powerless in a bureaucratic world that mandated decision making and problem solving from above, and sought to remove the personality and individual characteristics of its workers. Bureaucracy and its rigid enforcement of rules and regulations was strangling innovation and satisfaction within the workforce. One solution is to eliminate the rule of bureaucracy and allow workers more input into their jobs, which would create a sense of control over their own destinies. His argument for empowerment as a source of innovation is the foundation of much of modern management and workplace theory.

Brooklyn

The ethics of management is tied closely to the pursuit of worker motivation, value acquisition and learning principles. Management must serve the company. Ethical managers must never serve themselves or their own personal agendas. To increase ethics in management, managers can nurture and foster their teams and workers by improving performance through the use of learning and value acquisition tools such as seminars, tuition reimbursement for outside courses relating to work and job performance, and encouraging workers to gain transferable skills which will benefit their careers. Ethical managers do not practice negative power and realize that educating a workforce can only help meet the company's objectives and goals.

Maid of Honor Speech - A Bride's Best Friend's Speech

The history of Maid of Honor Speech

In every marriage we all would have seen a girl accompanying the bride and this girl is called the maid of honor. The girl is usually the bride's best friend. This concept of maid of honor has a history attached to it. They were first seen in England and were basically junior attendants to Queens. The maid of honor is usually a girl of 16 years or above. This tradition has spread to USA from England. The maid of honor usually gives a speech at the time of wedding and it generally contains wishing good luck to the couples who are to be married.

Banquet Halls In Queens

Duties That a Maid of Honor Must Perform.

Maid of Honor Speech - A Bride's Best Friend's Speech

The first thing to do would be to select the dresses for the bride (especially wedding gown) and for the maid of honor herself. The next thing would be to help address invitations, decorate ceremony and reception locations. The next thing could be to help the bride to get dressed in a neat and a beautiful way. Then the maid of honor could hold the bride's bouquet at the ceremony. The next thing that a maid of honor should do is to keep the bride's ring till the ring exchange is over. The most important thing that a maid of honor does is signing the marriage certificate as a witness. Then she could help the best man to bring the gifts to the bride. Then she could dance with the best man. The last thing that she could do is to help cleaning the reception area.

Guidelines for a Maid of Honor Speech:

A Maid of Honor Speech could contain the following things.

First maid of honor should address the gathering. Then she could introduce herself to the people present in wedding ceremony and then congratulate the couple. Then she could thank the couple for asking her to be a part of the marriage ceremony. She could speak about the time period for which she has known the couple. She could speak about the bride alone or she could talk about both the bride as well as the bridegroom. Then she could speak about the love between the couples, how it started, how it blossomed and things of that kind.

She could reveal the place where the couple met for the first time. She could speak how she felt when they both had expressed their love for each other. Then she could speak about her various experiences with the couple. She could talk about the various good qualities of both the bride and the bridegroom. She could describe the love that the bride has for the bridegroom. If the couple had any understanding then she could mention it in a line and then describe how they overcame their misunderstandings. Then she could give some kind of an advice for the couple to have a happy married life. Then she could finish her speech in a poetic way.

There are some dos and don'ts while giving the maid of honor speech and they are as follows. People who are nervous of speaking before a crowd could use some kind of notes as babbling would spoil the occasion. The speech shouldn't have any negative aspect to it.

One of the best ways to save money on wedding reception decorations is to do some of the work yourself. You can often buy the pieces and parts separate and then simple assemble the decorations. Buy In Bulk

Another great way which really goes along with the Do It Yourself concept is to buy in bulk whenever possible. This is easiest to do online these days as you can find many stores that will sell in large quantities. For example you can get 250 tea light or floating candles and sine you are purchasing so many at one time you will save big. Then you can use the concept from above and assemble them on your own.

Use Friends

An easy way to get the decorations done fast is to have a pre wedding decoration party with your girlfriends. Have them come over for an evening of hot soup and sandwiches and then spend the rest of the evening enjoying everyone's company and conversation while everybody works away at assembling the decorations for the reception.

Use Candles

Buy a ton of candles in bulk and then pick up a few large glass bowls or large open vases and you have your decorations set. You can float the candles on water inside of the vases. This makes a wonderful sparkling environment for the reception that people will just love. It is simple yet very elegant and can be done with very little work. For an extra personal touch you can include some candles at each persons sitting place also.

So get started early, purchase in bulk then divide and conquer to get the assembly of your decorations done for very little expense.

Old Bollywood Movies

If retro styles are in, then it is certainly because we believe that, 'Old is Gold.' The sweet and simple melody of songs, meaningful interludes and the charisma of natural expressions in the olden times is a regaling experience. The look of sixties and seventies has a charm of its own. There were all kind of films then namely action, suspense thrillers or the Indian family drama. The essence of old Bollywood movies relates to a hero who is the super hero and essentially a Jack of all trades.

Parallel cinema of art form was associated to social concepts, the prevalence of evils in the society or simple facts of normal living. In the earlier days, women oriented subjects were limited or the films revolved on a single theme. The complexity that is present in today's Bollywood films like multi-star cast, dual stories, assortment of screen play and specialization in functions was not adhered in the olden times. Film making was a devotion and a process which internalized in the directors mind. Most of the vamps or villains were predictable in their behavior and certain mannerisms were associated with them. There were stories about the kings and queens, patriotic movies and also others which had the pathos of romance. The actors were veterans and had a clear mind to play the role. Improvisation was their key objective. It is also true that story writing and lyrics writing was a true passion. The words were initially formed and the tune was set accordingly which is reverse to today's trend.

Queens

Quality was well maintained about continuity in the films. Flashback scenes were not of a very high detail yet the link was very well continued. The masking concept was very much in use for mingling two different shots at the editing table. Sounds were mostly verbal and the action scenes had less drama than the modern concept. Compositions and musical arrangement were simple and genuine. No treatment was given to alter the vocalists sound. There was a special charm in the look of the sixties. The fashion was original with familiar trends that came with the western influence.

Old Bollywood Movies

The adaptation of hairstyles was very evident in the black-white era. Make up ideas were minimal and the heroines had their own style concepts. Eastman color films also led to another change breaking the cliched presentation in the black and white films. The actors then were also playback singers and this worked as an advantage to the films popularity. Press conferences and film launches were comparatively a straightforward affair and award ceremonies were laudable for their simplicity. Elegance reigned supreme and this added to the glamor of the filmdom.

Fun Wedding Reception Games

We've all been to receptions that are basic - we welcome and celebrate with the new married couple, watch them dance, and enjoy cake with them. But creative couples often enjoy coming up with fun wedding reception games that include the entire guest list.

Including the guests is an excellent way to get people out of their chairs, meeting people they might not otherwise know and feeling like they are truly a part of the celebration, not just observers.

Banquet Halls

One fun reception game that can be played by all your guests, including grandma as well as the young children as well, is "want it now".

Fun Wedding Reception Games

In this game, you designate a master of ceremonies (if you have a DJ for your wedding reception, this person can serve as the DJ). The master of ceremonies will have a list of "wants" prepared before the wedding reception. Everyone sits at their tables, and waits to hear the command. The master of ceremonies says he wants a person with painted finger nails. All the women with painted finger nails run to the front of the room, toward the master of ceremonies. Each time a table sends someone to the front first, they get a point.

Points should be totaled during the course of this game and prizes awarded at the end of the game. Be sure to have some obvious "wants", as is the painted finger nails, or a man brown hair or a child with a white dress. But also include some surprises, like "a man with a brown dress" which will require a man to find a woman at his table with the brown dress and run up to the front of the room with that.

Another fun wedding reception game that includes all your guests is musical chairs using men as the chairs. All the men line up and kneel on one knee. The women begin playing the game of musical chairs, but when the music stops, they must find a knee to sit on. No "chairs" are removed during the version of the game, but instead people are eliminated when either the man falls down when the woman finds his knee or when the woman falls down. Both are out either way, and if both fall down, they are also both out then (as well as perhaps a bit bruised). This is a fun wedding reception game that often brings on lots of laughter and adds to a relaxed reception atmosphere.

If many guests are traveling a good distance to the wedding or don't know many other guests, it's always fun to include a game that will allow them to now only get to know each other but the bride and groom as well. For this game, you'll need a master of ceremonies again, which can be a very outgoing member of the wedding party or the DJ. The reception guests are broken into two groups, which can be as simple as having people count off "1, 2, 1, 2" and so on until the entire guest list is either a "1" or a "2". Then the two groups band together for the rest of the game.

The DJ, or master of ceremonies, offers a series of questions relating to the bride and groom. The teams will work together to answer the questions, then as quickly as possible provide the answer. The bride and groom will confirm if the answer is correct or not. This is an excellent way for otherwise "stranger" guests to get to know one another and have some fun in the process. It's also an excellent way to get to know the bride and groom!

Organizing fun wedding reception game at a wedding reception is a great way to get people involved and make them feel they are truly a part of the grand celebration. It's also a way to fill time, if the wedding planners know this isn't a "dancing" group or if you want to loosen people up for a long night of celebrating. Whether a small or large wedding, fun reception games work for just about any group.

In addition, don't assume wedding reception guests will be offended or upset by these fun wedding reception games. Most people tell wedding planners they truly enjoy being more active and having fun wedding reception games to play during a wedding reception.

Outdoor Wedding Reception Food and Drinks - Money Saving Methods

Wedding Reception Food

For those who opt for an outdoor wedding reception, there are several ways food can be served. Following are some popular and money saving methods for serving food at an outdoor wedding reception:Barbecue. At a casual reception, it is common to serve barbecue items such as hamburgers, chicken, or ribs. To make your barbecue buffet-style, ask your guests to forego a wedding gift in exchange for bringing their own special dish to accompany the barbecue. Although, if you do this, be sure to confirm with your guests beforehand so that you don't have everyone bringing the same dish. Buffet. Ask your guests to bring a favored dish instead of a wedding gift. If cost is an issue, serve vegetable, cheese, fruit, and meat trays with dips and other snacks rather than hosting a huge meal. Theme. Create a theme to base your reception meal around, such as Mexican or Hawaiian. Choose an outdoor theme that is simple, easy and affordable.
Wedding Reception Drinks

Banquet Halls

The bar tab can often account for one of the largest wedding expenses. Following are tips on serving drinks at your reception without incurring a major expense:Semi-open bar. Offer several beverages for free, such as beer and all non-alcoholic drinks, but have guests pay a nominal fee for mixed drinks, such as a dollar per drink to cover some of the expense. Bring your own. Request that guests bring their own drinks to the outdoor reception in lieu of bringing a wedding gift. Bulk purchase. Buy your spirits in bulk from a wholesaler. Multiple purchases. Purchase the drinks over a time period rather than all at once to spread the cost and payments.

Outdoor Wedding Reception Food and Drinks - Money Saving Methods

The beauty of hosting one is that it provides the flexibility to be casual or formal. A more casual theme will leave you with more room to reduce the expenses associated with the wedding reception food and drinks.

ESL reading: The Trojan War

ESL reading: The Trojan War Tube. Duration : 6.70 Mins.

A reading exercise about Troy. DONATIONS ( Donazioni) for OPENING A NEW SCHOOL IN BASILICATA( PER APRIRE UN SCUOLA DI INGLESE NELLA BASILICATA): Goto- coolenglishpz.chipin.com 30. Questions 30-32. The Trojan War is one of the most famous wars in history. It is well known for the ten-year duration, for the heroism of a number of legendary characters, and for the Trojan horse. What may not be familiar, however, is the story of how the war began. According to Greek myth, the strife between the Trojans and the Greeks started at the wedding of Peleus, King of Thessaly, and Thetis, a sea nymph. All of the gods and goddesses had been invited to the wedding celebration in Troy except Eris, goddess of discord. She had been omitted from the guest list because her presence always embroiled mortals and immortals alike in conflict. To take revenge on those who had slighted her, Eris decided to cause a skirmish. Into the middle of the banquet hall, she threw a golden apple marked "for the most beautiful." All of the goddesses began to haggle over who should possess it. The gods and goddesses reached a stalemate when the choice was narrowed to Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. Someone was needed to settle the controversy by picking a winner. The job eventually fell to Paris, son of King Priam of Troy, who was said to be a good judge of beauty. Paris did not have an easy job. Each goddess, eager to win the golden apple, tried aggressively to bribe him. "I'll grant you vast kingdoms to rule ...

The Order of a Wedding Reception

After the wedding ceremony comes the reception. We all know what the usual parts of a reception are, but not everyone knows the standard order of the events. To help you plan the perfect wedding, take a look at this guide to the order of events at a wedding reception.

Generally, after the marriage ceremony, the newlyweds will duck off for photographs while the guests mingle at the cocktail hour. The next time that the bride and groom are seen again will be when they make their grand entrance to the wedding reception. This is often done with great fanfare. In some cases, the bride may even choose to change out of the bridal gown and wedding jewelry which she wore for the ceremony into a party dress and more bold wedding jewelry for the reception.

Banquet Halls

This changeover ensures that when the newlyweds make their entrance, they will really make an impression! The bandleader announces the bride and groom by saying something like, "For the first time ever, please welcome Mr. and Mrs. Michael Jones!" and the guests respond with cheers and applause as the joyous newlyweds enter the room. Often, the couple will choose a meaningful and upbeat song to play during their entrance.

The Order of a Wedding Reception

Following the arrival of the bride and groom at the reception, there will be a Champagne toast (if your wedding is on a tight budget, this may be the only time Champagne is served at the reception). Custom says that the first toast is always given by the best man. The maid of honor is next, if she chooses to speak. Then the fathers of the bride and groom follow, along with any other family or friends who wish to propose a toast.

The speeches conclude when the groom or bride (or both) give a brief toast along the lines of how happy they are and how grateful they are to all of their guests for joining them on their special day. It should be noted that the persons being honored in a toast should only raise their glass, not drink from it. This old piece of etiquette can be helpful when there is speech after speech and the bride does not wish to have too much to drink on an empty stomach (the wedding guests of course, have already been chowing down at the cocktail hour, so they don't have this problem).

Speaking of empty stomachs, after the toasts, it is time for dinner to be served. Once dinner reaches its conclusion, the bride and groom will have the ceremonial cake cutting, and then the cake will be served. This is followed by the bride and groom's first dance. A recent trend has been to move the first dance to the moment when the newlyweds make their grand entrance; in that case, the floor would just open to general dancing at this point. If the bride and groom have their first dance after the cake cutting, it is followed by spotlight dances with their parents and the wedding party.

Towards the end of the wedding reception, the bandleader will announce that the bride is going to toss her bouquet. After that, the couple will either resume dancing, or prepare to make their grand exit. In some regions, it is customary for the newlyweds to change into going away outfits before they make their formal exit, surrounded by cheers and congratulations as they dash off into their waiting limo to head off on their honeymoon.

Awesome Ideas For Wedding Reception Table Decorations

Wedding reception table decorations add a great accent to your big day. Since the guests will be sitting around your table decorations, you want them to be memorable, while still being inexpensive, so you don't spend a fortune on them.

You can find many resources and other ideas to make great decorations that are sure to keep your guests talking for weeks or even years. With a creative mind, your choices are limitless.

Banquet Halls

One of the most impressive decorations in recent years is the fresh-cut fruit centerpiece. At Fruitstoremember, you can find amazing centerpieces made solely of fruits. More brides are adding these creations to their list of wedding reception centerpiece ideas because they are a great conversation piece at the event.

Awesome Ideas For Wedding Reception Table Decorations

This is also one of the best wedding reception table decorations because guests can use it as an appetizer while they are waiting for the happy couple to arrive at the reception hall. These decorations come in a variety of arrangements and they are a tasty and attractive addition to any marriage reception.

Balloons are another impressive, but cheap, idea for wedding reception table decorations. You can choose from a variety of colors and easily move this particular centerpiece around.

Balloons are ideal for them because they can be made up ahead of time and they are suspended in the air, so they do not obstruct anybody's view. Since you can buy a pack of balloons for only a few bucks, these can be included on your list of marriage reception centerpiece ideas when you're planning inexpensive marriage receptions.

For cheap marriage receptions, many brides can go to local Dollar Stores and find great products and ideas for their marriage reception table decorations. Many of these stores sell stylish glass vases, small mirrors, candles and marbles.

If you're looking for centerpiece ideas, you can combine marbles, water, and a floating candle in a large vase to create an impressive display. These decorations are elegant but inexpensive, making them ideal choices for receptions on any budget.

Whether you're trying to plan an inexpensive marriage reception or an elegant one, you can find the decorations to fit your budget. Many marriage-based websites will give you centerpiece ideas, as well as ways to do them yourself to save money.

Wedding reception table decorations can range from something as simple as balloons to something more unique and creative as a fresh-cut fruit arrangement. Either way, your reception will be something you will remember for a lifetime, regardless of which decorations you use.

An Example Wedding Reception Running Sheet Or Event Plan

Here's a sample of what you'll need to include on your running sheet or event plan for your wedding reception or wedding dinner.

Pre-Dinner drinks

Banquet Halls

A lunch or dinner function always starts with pre-dinner drinks and hor d'oeuvres. This will start at the time you have elected for your reception to start. For example 6.00pm. The Bridal party will usually be served their drinks and hor d'oeuvres in a private room. Pre-dinner drinks are for a duration of approximately 30 - 45 minutes, after which your guests are seated in the main dining room. The MC will advise the Bridal party when it's time to be presented and will then announce your party into the reception.

An Example Wedding Reception Running Sheet Or Event Plan

You should list the order in which you would like the bridal party to be introduced. Bridesmaids and groomsmen usually are introduced pair by pair, with the bride and groom introduced last. You should write down precisely how you would like yourselves (bride and groom) to be introduced.. eg; Anne & John; Anne & John Smith; Mr and Mrs Smith; Anne Jones and John Smith.)

Welcome

After the bridal party is seated is the best time for a welcome speech and / or Grace. If you want either or both, who will do this? The MC or a family member.

Entree is then served. After entree, the Bride and Groom will usually have time to circulate among their guests. The MC will let you know when main course is about to be served. After main course is cleared and the champagne is poured, the speeches will commence.

Speeches

A typical speech program usually includes the following:
Initial toast to the Bride & Groom, made by a family member or friend; Response by Groom / Bride, including a toast to the Bridal Party; Speech by Best Man, or other Bridal Party members; Telegrams, if any.

You should list the speeches / toasts that you would like to incorporate into your program IN ORDER. Add any speeches that fire not including the list above, or delete any. It is important that you are comfortable with the program which can be as traditional or as informal you like.

Formalities

After the telegrams, the MC will invite you to cut your wedding cake, and invite you onto the dance floor for your Bridal dance, if you are having one. This will open the first bracket of dancing. Dessert will be served after this bracket.

Farewell

To close the evening a circle can be organised approximately 15 minutes before the end of the function. The Bride can throw the bouquet and the Groom can throw the garter (if you choose to have these ) from the centre of the circle and then make their way around the circle to farewell the guests.

How will you be leaving? Taxi? Hire car! Friends/own car? Make sure you organise all details regarding this.

Alternatives:

-Cutting the cake just after the Bridal party enter at the start of the night.
-Bridal dance after entree followed by a dance bracket
-Speeches in between entree and main course
-Speeches during main course.

(These are usually to save time for dancing)

Remember, directly after the speeches it is wise to organise a dance bracket as this is a logical transformation from the formalities to the festivities, with the bride and groom leading the first dance. Even if you have already had your bridal dance, you can use a dedication to the bride and groom. It's your day. Your guests want your personal] contact and attention. If you and your bride party are on the dance floor, chances are about 90% of your guests will be too.

Gerard Kennedy Parkdale-High Park Campaign and Victory HDTV

Gerard Kennedy Parkdale-High Park Campaign and Victory HDTV Tube. Duration : 6.52 Mins.

Gerard Kennedy unseats NDP incumbent Peggy Nash in closely watched Parkdale-High Park riding. " This was your campaign as much it was my campaign, " Kennedy told supporters shortly before 11:30. " I intend to bring you with me to Ottawa. " It was a nail biter until the bitter end, but it was Liberal candidate Gerard Kennedy who unseated incumbent Peggy Nash in the Federal Election Tuesday evening. It was neck and neck as results started to trickle in soon after the polls closed at 9:30 pm and local residents and supporters remained glued to the TV screen at Kennedy's party headquarters, the Flamingo Banquet Hall on Dundas Street West. Cheers broke out as it became apparent that kennedy would be the victor.

1st, 2nd and 3rd Birthday Party Ideas

We all look forward to our child's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Birthday celebrations. We see the special days as markers of their huge accomplishments. What better way to celebrate your child's growth and development than to have a party! A 1st birthday is really for the parents to celebrate - You made it through the first year! Your one year old probably couldn't care less what you do but decorating for guests and pictures is always fun and a great way to make memories. The 2nd and 3rd celebration is definitely a kids birthday! Toddlers do understand whats happening when it comes to their birthday and are able to communicate their excitement. "My Birthday?", "For Me?", "Tomorrow?" is all you will hear for days before the event! Believe it or not, your child's first parties will be the easiest celebrations you will throw.

The most memorable too! So Here are some survival tips for throwing a stress free birthday party for toddlers. This day is all about celebrating your little ones special day so keep it super simple and you will be able to do just that! Activities: The Golden rule for successful parties for young children is having plenty of fun activities to keep them occupied. Keeping in mind that toddlers do not fully understand rules, have short attention spans, want to constantly move around and definitely do not grasp the concept of waiting their turn, you should simply set up multiple play stations. Some great play station ideas would be a play dough table, bins of duplo & blocks, floor puzzles, ride on toys and a crayon colouring easel.

Banquet Halls

Set up a bubble blower on a high surface so bubbles are constantly floating down for the kids to catch and pop. Ball Pits are always very exciting for toddlers. If you do not have one or know anyone who might, contact your local toy library and borrow one. You can also easily make your own with a blowup plastic pool and a bag of plastic balls or several small balloons. Games: Simple games like "I Spy", "Simon Says" and "Follow the Leader" are always a big hit for the younger set. If your little one loves crafts and making gifts for mommy, try stringing round cereal like fruit loops onto yarn to make necklaces. Organize a fish pond. You can use a large bucket or a small pool filled with water and have the kids hook a prize with a fishing pole. Or, set up the fishing pond behind a blanket and have the kids drop their fishing lines into the lake. A fishing rod can be made out of a stick, some rope and a clothespin. Have another adult hidden behind the blanket to clip on their prize or loot bag.

1st, 2nd and 3rd Birthday Party Ideas

Food: Think small, safe and simple. Its impossible for the excited young guest to keep sitting still for any length of time, so none messy finger foods that can be eaten on the go are always the best for toddlers. Consider things like: Animal Crackers, Goldfish Crackers, Pretzels, Cheese Cubes, Deli Meats, Cut Veggies, Pickles, Grapes, Banana Slices and Apple Wedges. Don't forget the juice boxes! The parents attending the party will also appreciate having a selection of meats, cheeses and veggies to munch on. At this younger age, small cupcakes for the young guests is always a little less messy and easier for them to handle on their own. A cake can be made or purchased for the traditional song singing, picture taking and candle blowing and then served to the adults attending. Time Capsule: Its startling how many details and memories get lost along the way. To mark this special occasion prepare a time capsule to be opened in later years - on the 9th or 10th birthday when they are all grown up!

All you need is a shoebox or some kind of container and fill it with memories of the day. A piece of decoration, unused tableware, a copy of the guest list, a party hat - whatever is reminiscent of that day. Have some paper and pens ready for guests to write a special note to your child in the the future. Seal the box securely with packing tape and give the time capsule as a gift to your child on their birthday several years later. Most Importantly: Keep it simple, have lots of help, keep the party under 2 hours and make sure to schedule the party after nap times! And remember, have lots of fun and take tons of pictures!

30th Birthday Cake Ideas

The most common theme for 30th birthday cakes is poking fun at the birthday boy or girl for getting "old!" An over the hill cake communicates to them that they are not as young as they used to be. By using black icing, you give the cake a grim and mournful appearance that says, "you are one more year closer to death."

Another old standby is to make two cakes in the shapes of the numbers "3" and "0". Start with a regular cake mix. Divide it into two parts, as you would when making a two-layer cake. And then carve each number out of each cake once it is cool from the oven. Frost them with festive colors and sprinkles and maybe a few candles.

Banquet Halls

Everyone has a hobby or personal interest like golf, sewing or just watching TV. Decorate your 30th Birthday cake with that theme. You can buy plastic figures playing golf and ice your cake to look like a putting green. You can make thread with a thin icing dispenser and a spool by icing a large marshmallow for the one who likes to sew. Or use the shape of a rectangular cake pan to form the screen of a TV or computer and write with icing "Warning, can cause eye strain" on the cake, with an inexpensive pair of reading glasses as a gag gift.

30th Birthday Cake Ideas

Perhaps a gift you would like to give the person turning 30 is a scap book of childhood pictures. You can make the cake look like the cover of a scrapbook with a photocopy picture of the person as a child in the center of the cake. Use an icing decorating dispenser to create a border around the picture. This will hold the picture on the cake, as well.

Popular today are cakes with a smooth surface. You may wonder how to create such a look with the icings that are available in your grocery store. The secret is simple: you don't use icing, you use marshmallow cream. You can buy the cream in a jar, or with water, melt some marshmallows in the microwave until they become like icing. Put in your favorite food coloring. And this type of icing is easy to apply to a cake a create that sleek surface that an expensive cake will have. The marshmallow icing is also easy to apply different colors in a pattern like stripes or diamonds.

4-1. Slavka Kalcheva in Toronto on March 26, 2010

4-1. Slavka Kalcheva in Toronto on March 26, 2010 Video Clips. Duration : 4.83 Mins.

Slavka Kalcheva came to Toronto on March 26, 2010 and she had an amazing concert in the banquet hall of the Macedono-Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church St. Cyril and Methody. We had great time listening to and dancing on her diverse repertoire of folklore songs from Trakia, Dobrudja and Macedonia areas of Bulgaria, as well as, her famous author song "Biala Roza". The concert duration was about 1 hour and 45 minutes and again I had to divide it in several parts to meet the size limit requirements of youtube. Enjoy the great performance and music of Slavka Kalcheva, because we will keep it in our hearts.
